With the hoops flexing its star power in the Ghana basketball academy league , it's a reminder the Fadama basketball academy seem to be at least one superstar short of competing against a team that figures to be a powerhouse for the next years.
President GM Mark Agbo Jr said the Academy, who are interested in adding some new kids in to the academy via the junior ball or in the upcoming community’s dunk, have a fluid off-season strategy, subject to changes in the G BA and elsewhere.
Fadama basketball academy is playing the numbers for 2012 while strapping on a parachute.
"I don't think you can look at one team and say that's what the standard model should be because it usually doesn't work that way," Mark said Saturday at the air force combine at the warriors ' practice facility. "You have to take what you have and you have a plan, but things change quickly.
"Fortunately, if you put yourself in a good position like Mr. Osi wisdom has in the last few years, you have an opportunity to (get another star). But if it doesn't happen, you have to leave yourself with the best possible scenario left."
Unfortunately for the F.B.A, the scenario for this off-season is pretty bleak with just ten best players in the academy and zero cap space. They also don't have a general manager signed through next season because the man responsible for rebuilding the Academy from rubble, Osi, has yet to sign an extension and his option wasn't picked up by the April 30 deadline.
Mr. Osi wisdom and representatives from 28 other Academies were in Kumasi to scout 22 prospects in 5-on-5 sessions, although none of the players are projected as first-rounder.
Mark outlined the Academy ' needs - including a young point guard and a shooter - but indicated they most desire a center. Their housing is structured so that cap space opens up after next season,
"The biggest thing we need is rebounding and a down-low presence," Mark said. "It's unclear if you're going to find that in the junior ball and community dung it or not.
